Xenon 50mm f1.9 A photo from this summer. Carrot flower from our garden. Yet another leaves bokeh. I like the rendering of Xenon. This is a version for Retina cameras but not named Retina-Xenon. It has short MFD of 0.5m compared to 0.9 of more common Retina-Xenon. Obviously it has longer barel but other than that it is the same lens optically.

Got this lens with a nearly destroyed Kodak Retina camera attached at an antique store for $15. The camera went straight into the garbage bin, the lens got attached to my DKL to LM adapter and mounted to the Techart LM-FE autofocus adapter on the A7R II. I was very pleasantly surprised with the sharpness and rendering. This was wide open @ f/1.9.

Why I asked: I shipped a Schneider-Kreuznach Xenon 50mm f/1.9 Exakta to Indonesia recently which sometimes had stuck aperture blades. If that's the copy I'm -sure- it isn't entirely stuck and can be loosened again until it get's stuck again, after which you repeat the loosening trick. It takes some practice, and yes it isn't ideal. Here's the copy:

4 Just recently purchased an adapter to use old Schneider Retina lenses on cameras with a Nikon F mount. As I expected this lens is excellent though a pain to use in fully manual mode with no automatic stop down. A couple of surprises. On a Nikon F5, F3, or D2X there is no problem with the mirror hitting the back of the lens.

The 50mm f1.9 Xenon is indeed quite a nice lens. The build quality is exceptional and the chrome finish is exquisite and beautiful. After decades, it, like all my other Schneider DKL lenses, still looks stunning. Most of the lens is made from brass and though small, it has a good heft and feels dense.
